IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER AT CEMEX QUARRY SITE ON CASTLEWAY

IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER AT CEMEX QUARRY SITE ON CASTLEWAY

I hope you are well , I would like to as you to publish the following on the parish council web site and ask for your support in preventing this issue turning into a accident.
There is no public right of way along the Cemex concrete haul road to the canal tow path from the site entrance onto the Castleway , or any public right of way along any part of our concrete road as this road is in use constantly . Over the last 3 weeks issues involving members of the public accessing site has become a major problem with people walking into the site while we are operating . I have a real concern for those peoples safety as the truck movements are increasing and I fear an incident along the road. To that end we have fenced off the places on the canal tow path that have been used to access the site and fitted extra signage with more signs on order , to try and stop this. The fencing and some of the signage has been repeatably cut and damaged to gain access to the site. We have now informed the police of the criminal damage and are taking steps to find and take action against the perpetrator.
While I and Cemex support both the footpaths and open spaces group and the parish council fully , I can not and will not overlook safety issues on site. To cut or damage fences is a highly irresponsible act that endangers life , this has been made worse by the Corvid-19 outbreak and the good weather.
I would like to stress again that these actions have been taken on the grounds of health and safety and that we are committed to opening up access to areas that are restored along the River Trent with our partners DWT to create and long distance footpath linking DWT reserve with our land.
Quarries are not play areas and contain many hidden dangers which should at no time be underestimated .
I thank you for your support in keeping everyone safe.
W Newton
Quarry Manager.
