Candidate Nancy Harman for Willington Parish Councillor

Candidate Nancy Harman for Willington Parish Councillor

The elections for the new Parish Councillors in Willington are upon us with voting day Thursday 30th November. The Parish Council, over the next few days will show case the 6 nominees. There are only 3 places on the Council so your votes count. First up is Nancy Harman, Mercia Marina:

My name's Nancy Harman and I live on Mercia Marina with my husband John and our dog Paddy.
Living there means that we are Willington residents but I'm very aware that we generally know little about village issues, and presume that they know little about our floating community. I'd like to work towards remedying this and feel that being on the Parish Council would be an excellent start towards that end.
I'm on the marinas Activity Committee that puts on events and runs clubs for the boaters over the winter season. I'm treasurer for the committee and also run the Craft Group and the Book Club.
I'm also an enthusiastic (but not very proficient) member of the Ukulele Group!
I'm now retired but used to be a College Lecturer, specialising in Child Care. I enjoy going to the gym on the bus three times a week which balances my other, more sedentary, hobbies which include patchwork, knitting, reading and writing. I've got two short books published aimed at young teens, and am, not very busily, writing the third.
I have five grown up children and eight grandchildren.
Before I retired and moved up here from the South West nearly seven years ago, I had been on a variety of committees, mainly PTA and School Governors, but also various Childminding groups, so I have experience in committee work, and understand the importance of listening to the views of others and working towards a common goal.
