Candidate John Phillips for Willington Parish Councillor
The sixth candidate for the election this Thursday, John Phillips:
I'm sure most people are wondering what all the fuss is about with this election. Like myself until a few months ago I didn't really know (or appreciate) what it was that a Parish Council actually did.
What I can say is that most of the issues we face as a village can in most cases be discussed and remedied by a strong and collaborative Parish Council working on behalf of (and in conjunction with) a village who feels part of the team. It feels like at present there is a 'them and us' and "what's the point" attitude with regard to the council which needs to change and change quickly. We face a lot of challenges over the coming years and the groundwork to that needs to start now.
The reality is we will always have day to day issues within the village, which in my opinion, should be raised, discussed and tackled quickly and with relatively little disruption to the job of ensuring our village remains a pleasant, safe and fun place for us all to live.
This I suppose would be my main purpose of being on the council. Making sure we keep the 'Village Plan' top of the agenda, at the front of our minds…..always the focus of our attention.
From my side there have been Phillips's in and around Willington forever so it would be good to try and help where I can.
This is the first time for years where we get to decide who we want to sit on the council. We have 6 candidates who all care enough to put themselves forward so let's all take this opportunity, get down to the hall and vote.
