Train Services on Track at Willington

Extra train services stopping at Willington are making it easier for local people to travel to nearby cities and towns.

CrossCountry Trains has improved travel between Nottingham, Derby, Burton and Birmingham by introducing two extra trains in each direction which will call at the village’s station.

This will make it more convenient for residents in Willington and surrounding areas  to get into these major Midlands cities and towns and to connect to places further afield.

The two extra morning and afternoon stops now mean 12 trains call at Willington daily giving more flexibility to commuters and shoppers.

The service is being run as a pilot to see how popular it is. It’s been launched after local residents and students attending Derby University Roundhouse Campus said they wanted more trains to stop at the station.

The Willington stops could become a permanent fixture if they prove popular enough.

Description: The Parish Council owns and maintains the playing field and groundmans store on Twyford Road, and maintains the changing facilities. Regular football matches are played by several teams including Willington FC.

Allotments

Bowls ClubWillington Bowls & Tennis Clubs

Description: The Parish Council owns and sub-lets the bowling green and pavilion to the local bowls club. If you are interested in becoming a member, then please contact the clerk who will forward details of the club secretary

Tennis Courts
Location: Repton Road View Map
Description: The Parish Council owns and maintains the tennis courts. They have recently been restored, which included the resurfacing of the courts, replacement of the nets, posts and fencing. This was partly funded by a grant under the Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme (DALGS) from the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) raised by the Aggregates Levy. If you would like to play tennis on the courts, then please contact the clerk who will confirm the rules of use and provide a key. There is also a club ran for children throughout the summer months. Details of which are also available from the clerk.
